On the morning of January 15, Yeungnam University (YU), led by President CHOI Oe-chool, held a certification ceremony for its Fiber System Engineering Department(Textile sector), recognized as a top-ranked department in the “2024 Industry Perspective University Evaluation” conducted by the Accreditation Board for Engineering Education of Korea (ABEEK).


Industry Perspective University Evaluation has been done since 2008 to expand communication between industry and universities, to cultivate human resources that meet industry demands, and to improve university curriculum and departments are directly evaluated by industry personnel and talent development staff from related organizations. 


 The 2024 evaluation covered five sectors: textiles, media, electricity, eco-friendly vehicles, and drones. It assessed 32 departments across 20 universities based on curriculum design, implementation, and outcomes. The universities that received the best evaluations were jointly awarded certification plaques in the names of the Ministry of Education, the Five Economic Organizations, and ABEEK. These plaques were presented to each department during award ceremony.


President CHOI Oe-chool emphasized, “In 2024, YU has achieved outstanding recognition in global university rankings for education, research, social responsibility, and leadership. This evaluation reflects our dedication to providing industry-relevant education and preparing students as workforce-ready professionals. We will continue to develop and implement tailored curricula that contribute to national development, societal progress, and global prosperity while nurturing leaders who adapt to the changing times.”


Since 2009, YU has consistently produced top-ranked departments across various fields, including metallurgy, advanced materials, construction, mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, semiconductors, information and communication technology, computer software, petrochemicals, environmental studies, biotechnology, food science, civil engineering, energy, and autonomous vehicles.
